ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this study is to tell how people who support Luther used visual images to convey Luther s religious values during the Reformation. During the Reformation, people used various methods to communicate their thoughts. Various rumors and stories were conveyed, and a lot of information was exchanged through prints. In addition, by composing and disseminating hymns containing Lutheran thoughts, information containing Lutheran values and logic was further spread. Particularly noteworthy is the activity of the Wittenberg region, centered on Lucas Cranach the Elder. They express Luther s view of thought by condensing it into a visual image. Basically, anti-Catholic tendencies appear in these works, which are expressed through the contrast between Catholicism and Lutheranism (or Christ). By clarifying the difference between the two through contrast and reinforcing criticism against Catholicism, it is giving more legitimacy to the Lutherans.
